The North Carolina Women's basketball team recovered nicely last week after falling hard to Duke. They defeated Boston College and Georgia Tech, both on the road. With six regular season games remaining, the Tar Heels hope to head towards March Madness with momentum.
Carolina sits at 10-2 in conference play, tied with Maryland. They are two games behind Duke who lead the conference with a game left with the Devils at Duke in March. The Blue Devils are one of two ranked teams North Carolina has in their remaining games with a road game at number 19 Florida State being the other.
The Heels have a golden opportunity to improve their seeding as they head towards their ultimate goal, the NCAA Tournament. With 4 games against teams with .500 records or below sandwiched around the two remaining ranked opponents, they are in prime position to finish the regular season on a roll and ensure a high seed in the ACC Tournament.
Carolina has three scorers averaging double figures scoring in Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, Xylina McDaniel and Waltiea Rolle. Krista Gross leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game while McDaniel pulls down 7.3 a game to go with her 12.3 points per game scoring.
Sylvia Hatchell won her 900th game as Head Coach in the teams recent victory at Boston College. Hatchell is second only to Pat Summitt in the ranks of Women's Basketball coaches. Summitt won 1098 games as Head Coach at Tennessee.
North Carolina is next in action on Thursday at home against Wake Forest.
