After sweeping Virginia on the road, the Tar Heels found themselves back in the friendly confines of The Bosh on Wednesday. However, Liberty defeated Carolina 5-3 in baseball spoiling the team's homecoming.
Tyler Cox drove in 2 runs to lead the Flames to victory. Chris Munnelly went 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on the night. Michael Russell drove in the only runs of the night for Carolina going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi. Jacob Stallings and Cody Stubbs each had 2 hits.
The game went back and forth and was tied at 2 going to the 8th when Liberty brought one run home followed by 2 in the ninth. Carolina rallied in the bottom of the ninth but were only able to bring home one run.
The loss ended a 5 game winning streak for North Carolina who will look to rebound with a three game series against Georgia Tech starting on Friday. Carolina's next 11 games will be at home.
