Carolina defeats Cornell in Regional
The Tar Heels, fueled by a 4 run 4th inning and hot bats by Colin Moran and Jacob Stallings, defeated Cornell 7-4 and go to 1-0 in the Chapel Hill Regional. They will face St. John's today, who defeated East Carolina on Friday.
Moran and Stallings both drove in runs in the 4th along with Parks Jordan and Adam Griffin, giving North Carolina a 5-0 lead that they never relinquished.
Moran had 4 hits on the day while Stallings had 2. However, North Carolina was actually out hit in the ball game by Cornell by a 13-11 margin.
Hobbs Johnson went 5 innings and gave up 2 earned runs, on the mound for UNC. It was Michael Morin picking up his 18th save in relief. Carolina used 6 pitchers on the day.
Brian Billigen homered and drove in 2 runs for Cornell who will face East Carolina in the loser's bracket on Saturday.
The Tar Heels will face St. John's at 6pm on Saturday from The Bosh. The two teams met back in February with UNC coming away with an 8-4 win. The winner will go into Sunday with a chance to close out the Regional.
