Harrison Barnes scored 21 points while Kendall Marshall dished out 14 assists to lead the Tar Heels over South Carolina 87-62, in the Las Vegas Invitational on Friday.

The Tar Heels shot under 50% from the field but for the second straight game, were hot from behind the 3 point arch. They went 8-16 on Friday.

Carolina led at halftime 45-32 at halftime but stretched the lead out in the second half to as large as 27 points. South Carolina was scrappy and continued to fight back before ultimately falling. They were led by Damien Leonard's 15 points.

Coach Roy Williams had high praise for his point guard who is averaging 11 assists per game thus far. "Kendall, I thought was sensational.....Those are the kinds of stats that really important to our team." Marshall came up with 6 steals on the night as well.

John Henson had another solid game with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while freshman P.J. Hairston had his best performance scoring 19 off the bench.  9 players got into the scoring column for North Carolina.

It was the first time the two schools have met in basketball since 1996. The Tar Heels lead the all time series 57-21 with most of those games coming when South Carolina was a member of the ACC.

The Tar Heels move on to the Championship game against undefeated UNLV on Saturday night.
