The top rated Tar Heel Field Hockey came away with two wins over the weekend. On Friday, they kicked off the season with a 2-1 win over Lock Haven. On Sunday, the Heels followed that victory with a 10-0 result against Villanova. Friday's game was played in Lock Haven, Pa., while Sunday, Newark, Del.

On Friday, it was Samantha Travers and Casey Di Nardo scoring goals against Lock Haven. North Carolina out shot the Lady Eagles by a margin of 24-2.

But it was Lock Haven breaking the ice with the first goal at the 7:42 mark as Kelly Harsch knocked in a loose ball on a rebound.

The Eagles held the lead until Travers' equalizer at the 35 minute mark. Di Nardo came up with the game winner on an unassisted goal at the 41:40 mark.

Carolina's defense did not allow a shot in the second half.

On Sunday, North Carolina exploded offensively with 7 different players scoring goals in the game. Casey Di Nardo,  Janne Grove and Nina Notman each had 2 goals in the game.

Carolina fired 33 shots against the Wildcats while only allowing one shot in the game while maintaining a 14-1 advantage on penalty corners.

The Tar Heels scored early and often with 8 goals in the first half, coasting in the second with 2.

The number one ranked team in the nation will be in action next in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. They will face Michigan on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday from Iowa City, Iowa.
