After a sweep over the weekend at the hands of Miami, the Tar Heels stepped out of conference and into the friendly confines of Boshamer Stadium and defeated UNC-Asheville 10-5 on Wednesday. They go back on the road for a three game series against Virginia in Charlottesville this weekend.

The 8th ranked Tar Heels were led by Parks Jordan who drove in 4 runs along with Chaz Frank and Michael Russell who drove in 2 runs each.

Carolina spread out 9 pitchers in the game but it was starter Hobbs Johnson who took the win going 3.1 innings, allowing only 1 earned run. He moves to 2-0 on the season.

North Carolina scored twice in the second, fueled by a Cody Stubbs homer, and two more times in the bottom of the third to give them a 4-0 lead. But the feisty Bulldogs fought back eventually cutting the lead to 6-5 going to the bottom of the 8th.

It was in the 8th that Carolina opened the game up for good bringing 4 runs home to secure the 10-5 victory.  They were assisted by an error in the inning that accounted for 3 unearned runs.

The Tar Heels move to 24-9 on the season and will face a Virginia team starting on Friday, who are tied with Carolina at 9-6 in the ACC. The Cavs are 23-10-1 overall and ranked 24th in the Baseball America rankings.
