It was Martin Murphy with the game winning goal at the 58th minute on Friday night, and Carolina defeated West Virginia in Men's Soccer 1-0.

Murphy was set up by freshman Danny Garcia for the only score.

West Virginia had the momentum early but could not cash in with a goal as Scott Goodwin kept a clean slate in goal despite being attacked.

Once again, Goodwin was attacked late in the game after Carolina scored. But the goaltender was able to fend off everything that was sent his way and Carolina held on to the victory.

The top ranked Tar Heels move to 2-0-0 on the season and will be in action again on Sunday night as the Carolina Nike Classic continues. They will host Boston University.
