Heels fall in Independence Bowl
North Carolina scored the first touchdown of the game on a great throw and catch from Bryn Renner to Dwight Jones. Missouri proceeded to run off the next 31 points of the game and Carolina fell to the Tigers 41-24 in the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl on Monday.
Carolina's defense could not stop the high powered Missouri offense who ran up 513 yards on the night. The win will be the last as a member of the Big 12 for the Tigers as they join the SEC next season.
Bryn Renner threw for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns for the game. Jheranie Boyd caught three passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. Gio Bernard was held to only 31 yards for the game.
The loss ends the season and the tenure of Everett Withers at head coach. Withers will join the Ohio State coaching staff next season. After a 5-1 start, North Carolina finished the season at 7-6.
It will be a new era next season with new head coach Larry Fedora taking over. There is still a question of whether the Tar Heels will be bowl eligible next season and how severe penalties by the NCAA will be for the program.
