John Henson poured in 18 points and brought down 14 boards while Harrison Barnes scored 18 to lead the Tar Heels over Mississippi Valley State 101-75 on Sunday. Despite the score, it was a sluggish performance by North Carolina who finished 5 for 19 from behind the three point arch and finishing 16 of 31 from the free throw line. The Tar Heels won despite only shooting .460 from the field for the game. North Carolina exerted a clear advantage inside dominating the boards by a 62-39 advantage. Tyler Zeller had double figure rebounds with 10 and Barnes chipped in 7. It was a game that allowed North Carolina to give minutes to their heralded freshman. P.J. Hairston played 14 minutes contributing 8 points while James Michael McAdoo played 16 minutes and scored 10 points while chipping in 5 rebounds. The Delta Devils managed to keep the game under a 20 point deficit for most of the game but North Carolina stretched the lead out midway through the second half opening up as large as 30 before finishing with the 26 point victory. Brent Arrington poured in 33 points in the loss fr Mississippi Valley State. The Tar Heels move to 3-0 on the season and will be in action next on Tuesday against Tennessee State before taking on South Carolina in Las Vegas in tournament action on Friday.
