Men's Soccer Register Win and Draw this Week
Carolina's Men shut out Old Dominion on Tuesday and played to a draw against rival Duke on Friday. The 4th ranked Tar Heels moved to 8-1-1 on the season.
Tuesay, Kirk Urso, Enzo Martinez and Rob Lovejoy all scored goals to lead Carolina to a 3-0 win over Old Dominion at Fetzer Field. UNC scored once in the first half and added their 2nd and 3rd goals in the second half. It was the 5th straight win and the 4th consecutive shut out by the team. Junior goalkeeper, Scott Goodwin ran his scoreless streak to 422:36 with the shut out. Enzo Martinez scored his 6th goal of the season in the win.
On Friday, Carolina was back on Fetzer Field hosting arch-rival Duke. In front of a record crowd of 4825, the two played to a 2-2 draw. The Heels came from behind in the game as the Blue Devils struck first in the 15th minute of the match. Nick Palodichuk registered the goal for Duke but Billy Schuler came up with the equalizer on a deflected pass attempt by Duke's Riley Wolfe that found the net. The match remained tied when Schuler was awarded his 7th goal ofthe season at the 75th minute. Carolina seemed in control but a late turnover late in the match lead to the Duke equalizer. The Heels had to hold on with just 10 men on the pitch as Jordan McCrary earned a red card in the 87th minute. Neither team could tally a score in the overtime periods. The Heels outshot Duke 18-17 on the match. North Carolina will host UNC-Asheville on Tuesday.
