The 4th ranked North Carolina lacrosse team launched their 2013 season with a 16-8 victory over Air Force over the weekend and hope to launch a season that ends up in the championships over Memorial Day weekend.
Carolina has built a successful lacrosse program recently and it is not unrealistic to set goals extremely high again this season.
On Friday, the Heels 5 goals from Jimmy Bitter while Joey Sankey and Marcus Holman each contributed 3 in the victory against Air Force.
With the game close at halftime, the Tar Heels broke things open in the second half with 8 goals to Air Force's 2. They out shot the Falcons 49-34 in the game. Kieran Burke had 11 saves on the day as North Carolina started their 2013 campaign successfully.
The game was played in front of 1714 fans at Fetzer Field who saw two former Carolina players coaching on opposite sides. Tar Heels coach, Joe Breschi was in the class of 1990 while Air Force coach, Eric Seremet was in the class of 1992.
North Carolina while put their 1-0 record up against Massachusetts from Kennesaw, Georgia on Saturday. The Minutemen are ranked 13th in the nation.
