The Men's and Women's Soccer teams have advance in the NCAA Tournament and will continue play this weekend.

The Men, who look to defend their Championship, received a first round bye before meeting the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Sunday. After the game finished at 0-0, Carolina won a shootout by a 3-2 score as Goaltender Scott Goodwin came up with 3 big saves.

Neither team could score in the 90 minutes of regulation and 2 10 minute overtimes.

Carolina controlled play throughout the game and out shot UMBC by a margin of 12-9 and had two more corner kick attempts.

Andy Craven led North Carolina with 4 shots, 1 of them on goal. Mikey Lopez, Cameron Brown and Alex Olofson both had shots on goal as well.

With the victory, Carolina will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday in the 3rd round.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Women defeated Illinois and Baylor to move on to the quarterfinal round where they will face BYU on Friday.

The Heels bombarded the Illini 9-2 to move on to the Baylor game. In that game, Crystal Dunn tied the score at 1-1 in the 82nd minute and won in penalty kicks to advance.

Carolina won the game on penalty kicks by a margin of 4-2. They out shot the Bears 13-9 and held an edge on corner kicks 5-4.

They will move on to Provo, Utah to face BYU with a chance to move on to the Final Four. Game time is 8pm on Friday night.
