The top ranked North Carolina Women's Soccer team remained unbeaten with victories over New Mexico and Kennesaw State in the Carolina Nike Classic over the weekend in Chapel Hill.
On Friday, the Tar Heels rallied from a 1-0 lead by the Lobos with 2 second half goals. It was Dylann O'Connor of New Mexico scoring an unassisted goal at the 9:24 mark. and UNM held the lead until Crystal Dunn came up with the equalizer at the 58:01 mark. Kealia Ohai and Meg Morris came up with assists on the play.
The Heels finally took the lead with a game winning goal by Caroline Lindquist at the 67:18 mark of the game.
UNC finished with a decisive 21-3 shot advantage in the game.
On Sunday, Carolina turned a defensive game into a 3-0 victory over Kennesaw State with three goals after the 44 minute mark. Paige Nielsen, Summer Green and Kealia Ohai all had goals in the game.
Much like Friday's game, the Heels held a huge advantage in shots finishing with a 20-2 margin.
With the win, North Carolina moves to 4-0 on the season and will next meet UCLA and West Virginia in the Duke Nike Classic on Friday and Sunday.
The Men opened the season on Friday with a 1-0 victory over Monmouth in the Classic.
It took two overtimes before the scoreless tie could be broken. It was Tyler Engel scoring at the 102 mark of the game.
Carolina out shot the Hawks by a margin of 12-2 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-1.
Engel's goal came from 16 yards after Nick Williams and Jordan McCrary set the Tar Heel forward up.
UNC was scheduled to face Coastal Carolina on Sunday night, but inclement weather forced the game to be moved to 10:30a.m on Monday. at Fetzer Field. The 4th ranked Tar Heels will go into the game at 1-0 on the season.
