The Top ranked Tar Heel men advanced to the third round with a 3-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Enzo Martinez scored on a free kick in the 69th minute sealing the win. North Carolina will move on to face 16th ranked Indiana on Sunday at Fetzer Field.
The Tar Heels trailed by one goal twice in the match and trailed at halftime for only the second time this season. Ben Speas evened it up at the 49 minute mark and Kirk Urso would tie it at 2 in the 51 minute mark before Martinez' game winner.
The win was the Tar Heels 7th in a row and their 25th tournament win in history.
Meanwhile, the Womens squad were not as successful on Sunday falling to Central Florida in a sudden death shootout after the two teams finished tied 1-1 in Gainesville, Florida. The loss ends the Tar Heels season at 13-5-2.
In the shootout, UCF's Bianca Joswiak nailed the decisive kick to send the Knights to the quarterfinals where they will face Wake Forest. North Carolina has now faced two shootout situations in their NCAA Tournament history and are now 0-2 in shootouts.
Crystal Dunn scored the only Carolina goal in the match, evening things up with 5:25 left to play.
