Dean Smith was not only one of the greatest coaches ever, he is responsible for creating the Carolina Family that runs deep to this day, years after his retirement. It has been highly publicized the love for the University by former players and coaches who return to Blue Heaven often to compete in pick up games, soak up the campus or visit the basketball offices. And it goes way beyond this.
It doesn't stop with former players, Tar Heel Nation is an amazing group of loyal alumni, fans and friends of the University who are known to unite during good times and adversity.
They never fail to amaze. There is a movement on twitter that has spread like wild fire. It started with a simple twitter handle and has grown into the hash tag #PassFir5t. It is a movement in support of fallen point guard Kendall Marshall who suffered a broken wrist against Creighton and had surgery on Monday. His status is uncertain going forward in the NCAA Tournament, but Tar Heel Nation are sending prayers, well wishes and something else unique. They are writing the number 5 on their wrist with a sharpie and posting pics of it on Twitter. The act has touched Marshall who will travel with the team to St. Louis.
"Thanks to everyone supporting the #PassFir5t Movement. You guys don't realize how much it means to me." This was tweeted by Marshall earlier this evening.
I would encourage Tar Heel fans to get over to twitter, join in on the movement and let @kbutter5 know you are behind him and the team.
