The Everett Withers era got off to a good start on Saturday as North Carolina defeated James Madison 42-10 in Kenan Stadium. The Heels, led by quarterback Bryn Renner and receiver Dwight Jones jumped out quick and never looked back.

The Tar Heels darted out to a 21-0 lead as Brenner was perfect, not missing a target early on in his starting debut. He finished the game completing 22 of 23 passes for 277 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Brenner found a target he liked in Dwight Jones who grabbed 9 passes for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Carolina used a pair of running backs in Ryan Houston and Giovani Bernard who combined for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns. It turned out to be a nice mixture in styles as Houston gives the power style run while Bernard is more finesse.

North Carolina's defense only allowed 211 total yards on the day with only 59 on the ground. Quentin Coples led the attack with 2 sacks on the day.

But this day belonged to Bryn Renner who set a school record for completion percentage at 95.7 percent just behind the NCAA record that belongs to Tennessee;s Tee Martin (95,9 percent)

Kicker Casey Barth kept his record streak of extra points intact adding 6 on the day which brings his total to 77 straight without a miss, a school record.

James Madison was Justin Thorpe who threw for 152 yards and a touchdown.
