Top Ranked North Carolina kicked off conference play in Women's Soccer successfully on Thursday night. They defeated Virginia Tech 2-1 in Blacksburg, Va.
Paige Nielsen was the first Tar Heel in the scoring column with a shot to the right corner at the 34 minute mark. Kealia Ohai added insurance at the 59 minute mark with a breakaway goal, assisted by Crystal Dunn. It was Ohai's 5th goal of the season.
Jazmine Reeves scored for Virginia Tech with just under 4 minutes left in the game, to cut the Tar Heel lead to one. But North Carolina hung on for the win taking their record to 7-0 on the season.
Carolina out shot the Hokies 14-7 in the game and had 9 shots on goal to Virginia Tech's 2. The Heels had 11 corner kicks on the night.
The Tar Heels will finally return to Chapel Hill on Sunday to face 8th ranked Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m. from Fetzer Field. It is their first home game since September 1 when they defeated Kennesaw State.
