The Tar Heels fell to UNLV in the Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday night, 90-80. The Rebels out scrapped, out rebounded and simply out played Carolina in this one. On the heels of 13 three point buckets, UNLV took the lead with 18:02 left in the 2nd half and never relinquished it.

You would have to question the Tar Heels shot selection at times in the game, particularly in the second half, as North Carolina shot under 42% from the field in the game. Carolina was pounded on the glass. They were out rebounded 46-37, 13 of those on the offensive boards. The Tar Heels struggled from the free throw line as well down the stretch shooting 60% for the game.

UNLV launched 32 three point shots, making 13 for the game. Chace Stanback scored 28 points to lead the Rebels.

For the Tar Heels, Harrison Barnes and P.J. Hairston led the team in scoring with 15. Kendall Marshall dished out 8 assists.

It was back and forth in the first half as the lead changed hands a number of times. Carolina had the lead at halftime 42-38 but UNLV outscored the Heels in the second half 52-38.

North Carolina falls to 5-1 on the season and will be back in action against Wisconsin on Wednesday night in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge.
