13th ranked Massachusetts rallied to come back and defeat the 7th ranked Tar Heels 12-11 in Lacrosse on Saturday.
The Minutemen scored 4 unanswered goals in the 4th quarter after trailing 11-8, with the last two unassisted, sealing the victory.
Jimmy Bitter, Marcus Holman and Spencer Parks all scored twice for North Carolina in the losing effort and North Caroina out shot UMass 43-38 in the game but it was 18 saves by Zachary Oliveri in net for the Minutemen that secured the win.
The Tar Heels held the lead from the beginning and seemed to have things going in their direction until the 4th quarter. Kieren Burke had 12 saves for North Carolina but it was not enough as the Heels fell to 1-1 on the early season.
The game was played in Kennesaw, Georgia. Carolina is next in action next Saturday against Fairfield at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill.
