The Miami Hurricanes swept the three game series with the Tar Heels in baseball over the weekend and move into first place in the Coastal Division of the ACC.
The Heels struggled at the plate on the road against Miami pitching all weekend. They were only able to come up with 19 hits in the three game series and were shut out twice.
On Friday, Eric Erickson of the Canes threw 7 innings of shut out pitching, only giving up 4 hits in the outing and Peter O'Brien drove home 4 runs in the game. Carolina scattered six hits in the ball game and ace Kent Emanuel gave up 3 earned runs in his 6 innings on the mound. It was Emanuel's second loss of the season, falling to 5-2. The Tar Heels, still playing without injured Colin Moran, struggled at the plate all game.
On Saturday, Carolina lost a heart breaker falling 4-3 in 14 innings. Esteban Tresgallo hit a solo game winning home run in the bottom of the 14th to win the game for Miami.
Michael Morin went 7 innings in relief and pitched solid with the exception of the Tresgallo home run. Starter, Chris Munnelly went 5 innings allowing only 1 earned run.

In the series finale, the Heels struggled at the plate again, only finding 5 hits in the ball game. However, their pitching was solid only yielding 5 Hurricane hits. But once again, 3 errors did not help the cause as two of the 4 Miami runs were unearned in the 4-0 shutout.
Benton Moss took the loss for North Carolina but struck out 9 batters in his 6.1 innings on the mound. He falls to 2-2 on the season. The Tar Heels left 14 men on base in the game.

The Heels went into the series ranked 3rd in the Nation and they will certainly fall after the sweep. They look to bounce back against UNC-Asheville only Wednesday from The Bosh, before going on the road to face Virginia in a three game series over the weekend.
