Tar Heels Sweep Bobcat Invitational
It was another successful weekend for North Carolina's Volleyball team, taking all three games over the weekend at the Bobcat Invitational from Athens, Ohio.
On Friday, the Heels kicked things off against Dayton. They proceeded to sweep the Flyers 3-0. After dominating the first two sets, the Flyers pushed the Heels in the third but it was all Carolina winning, 25-14, 25-19, 25-23. Jovana Bjelica had 12 kills in the game while Ece Taner had 18 digs
In the nightcap on Friday, North Carolina dug themselves a huge hole before making a fierce comeback to defeat Ohio, 3-2.
The Bobcats took the first two sets, 25-23, 25-16 when the Tar Heels started their comeback. They took the next two sets, 25-18, 25-22 in front of a pro Ohio crowd. Finally, North Carolina finished their comeback taking the fifth and final set 15-8.
Once again, it was Jovana Bjelica leading UNC in kills with 16. The combination of Ece Taner and Leigh Andrew were huge defensively combining for 42 digs.
North Carolina finished things up in Ohio on Saturday, facing Cincinnati. The Tar Heels rolled, 25-14, 25-14, 25-17. The Bearcats remain winless while Carolina moves to 6-0 on the season, with all victories coming away from Chapel Hill.
It was a balanced attack against Cincy, with Taylor Treacy firing 9 kills, Leigh Andrew 8 and Hayley McCorkle with 7.
24th ranked Carolina, will finally play in Chapel Hill in their next game. They face George Washington on Friday at 7:00 p.m. That game starts a home stand of 7 games played at home. Three of those games will be next weekend.
