Tar Heels win in Final Seconds
In an extremely competitive game at Fetzer Field, Chad Tutton scored with just 3 seconds left giving Carolina a 16-15 win over 5th ranked Princeton on Saturday.
Carolina saw a two goal lead disappear and found themselves down by 1 with under a minute to play. The Heels came up with 2 goals in the final 37 seconds in a wild finish to pull out the win.
After two heartbreaking losses, UNC needed this one and the 11th ranked Heels move to 3-2 on the season. It was the first loss for the Tigers.
The game featured a combined 99 shots with Princeton out shooting the Tar Heels by a 56-43 margin.
Princeton jumped out to an early lead and the game went back and forth from there. The Heels led by one going into the fourth quarter, 11-10, but could not shake Princeton.
R.G. Keenan won 20 face-offs and was huge in the final minute giving North Carolina opportunities to overtake the Tigers won point lead.
Jimmy Bitter, Chad Tutton and Davey Emala all had 3 goals for the Tar Heels. Joey Sankey had 2 goals and 4 assists while Bitter and Marcus Holman each had 3 assists. Kieren Burke had 10 saves in net for North Carolina.
The game was played in front of a lively crowd of 4362 at Fetzer Field. The Carolina homestand continues with a huge game on Wednesday against rival Duke, from Fetzer.
