North Carolina overcame 5 turnovers and some very costly turnovers and hung on to defeat Rutgers 24-22. Bryn Renner was picked off 3 times and the Heels lost two fumbles in the game.

Giovani Bernard scored 2 touchdowns and rushed for 81 yards in the game.  Carolina held Rutgers on downs with 2:32 left in the game and were able to run the clock out.

Bryn Renner went 20 of 26 for 273 yards but thew for 3 interceptions on the game.  As in week one, Dwight Jones was his favorite target grabbing 6 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.

The Tar Heels let Rutgers hang around despite dominating statistically in the first half. They had rolled up 286 yards to Rutgers 91 in the first half but only held a 5 point halftime lead. They were able to held the Scarlet Knights at arms length in the second half.

Chas Dodd led Rutgers with 243 yards  and two touchdowns and Mohamed Sanu caught 13 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.

North Carolina's defense held Rutgers to only 1 yard rushing for the game. Defensive End Kareem Martin had a career high 8 tackles in the game. PK Casey Barth extended his consecutive extra point streak to 80 straight. the win was the 6th consecutive non-conference win.
