The Top Ranked Tar Heel Field Hockey team defeated Michigan and Iowa to sweep both games in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa, this weekend.
On Saturday, the Tar Heels yielded the first goal to the Wolverines before scoring the next five and never looked back in route to the 7-2 victory.
Seven different Tar Heels scored in the game including Nina Notman who scored her third of the season. North Carolina out shot Michigan by a 14-8 margin in the game.
On Sunday, the Heels faced 13th ranked Iowa in front of a pro Iowa crowd. Abby Frey, Charlotte Craddock and Loren Shealy all scored leading Carolina to a 3-1 victory.
The Tar Heels had 12 shots on goal in the game to the Hawkeye's 6.
North Carolina broke the ice at the 1:05 mark of the first half when Emily Wold set up Shealy who chipped in the goal. The Tar Heels added another goal at 15:08 in the first half when Craddock deflected a rebound.
After the Heels took a 2-0 lead into the half, Iowa scored at the 40:20 mark when Dani Hemeon scored off of a corner to cut the lead to 2-1. But Frey added insurance with a deflection into goal just before time expired.
With the two victories in Iowa, North Carolina moves to 4-0 and will finally play at home in their next game which is Friday against Old Dominion.
