It was a busy week for North Carolina athletics. Football took center stage but here is a look at other sports in action over the weekend:

Volleyball

The Tar Heels defeated LSU 3-0 on Friday, Western Michigan 3-1 and Middle Tennessee State 3-0 on Saturday. They won their 8th straight match moving to 8-1 on the season.

Carolina starts conference play at N.C. State on Friday.

Field Hockey

The top ranked Tar Heels remained undefeated over the weekend defeating Delaware 6-0 on Friday and Villanova 10-0 on Sunday.

Carolina scored 4 times in the first half and added 2 more in the second against the Blue Hens. Samantha Travers and Sinead Loughran each scored twice in the game.

On Sunday, 7 different Tar Heels scored against Villanova. Samantha Travers recorded the hat trick, scoring three times against the Wildcats.

Men's Soccer

The number 1 ranked Tar Heels defeated Virginia Tech on Saturday, 2-0. Both Tar Heel goals came in the first half as Martin Murphy scored twice within two minutes of each to lead Carolina.

The Tar Heels out shot the Hokies 13-5 in the game. The UNC defense was solid as Scott Goodwin only had 1 save in the game.

Up next for North Carolina is James Madison on Tuesday. The Tar Heels go to 4-0 on the season.

Women's Soccer

The Tar Heel women recorded two shut outs over the weekend defeating Marquette 4-0 on Friday and San Diego 5-0 on Sunday.

Summer Green scored twice against Marquette on Friday while Amber Brooks and Paige Nielson each had one goal in the game to lead North Carolina.

The Tar Heels opened up a close game with 3 goals in the second half. Carolina defense held Marquette to only 2 shots in the game.

Summer Green scored twice again on Sunday leading Carolina over San Diego. Much like the Marquette game, the Heels blew things open in the second half this time scoring 4 times. North Carolina out shot San Diego 28-6 in the game.

The 18th ranked Tar Heels are in action again Thursday against Maryland in conference play.
